The Doubt Isn’t About God – It’s About Us

Should healing be repeated? This is what A Course in Miracles explores in the Teacher’s Manual, Chapter 7. It’s a question I’ve spent a lot of time with, both as a prayer practitioner and a teacher.

Here’s what we’re told: the real basis for doubt about the outcome of any problem given to God’s Teacher for resolution is always self-doubt.

Always.

A Course in Miracles says: The real basis for doubt about the outcome of any problem that has been given to God’s teacher for resolution is always self-doubt. And that necessarily implies that trust has been placed in an illusory self, for only such a self can be doubted.”

Of course we’re going to doubt the personality’s effectiveness. Of course we are. The solution isn’t to try harder from the personality level. The solution is to stop putting any trust in the personality – not ours, not somebody else’s.

The doubt isn’t about whether God loves us, whether God’s listening, whether God cares. The doubt is in our own mind about worthiness. Are we worthy?

This is connected to what A Course in Miracles calls false humility – when a person seems humble but is actually egotistical in the sense of thinking of themselves as not good enough. Thinking we’re not good enough IS egotism.  Because we’re all the Christ.

Thinking someone is better than us, thinking we’re less than – that’s the thing we forgot to laugh about.

We are all the same. Fundamentally, we’re all part of God. All the same. When we’re in the space of embarrassment, shame, or false humility, there’s a confusion about our identity. We’ve deceived ourselves.

The opportunity is to turn it over to the Higher Holy Spirit Self. Because it’s so uncomfortable, we can’t stand it anymore – and that discomfort drives us to surrender.

That’s actually a good thing.

It takes practice. Which requires real attention, but practice brings results and results are worth it – especially these kinds of results:  Peace, Joy, Freedom, Wholeness, Clarity, Freedom, etc.

Let’s prove to ourselves that God works. Let’s prove that we’re worthy of miracles. Let’s prove that we can let go of the past forever.

Let’s prove that there’s nothing to doubt about God as us.

In my Masterful Living Program, we build that trust together all year long – placing our faith in Spirit instead of in the personality.  Prayer works wonders for anchoring faith and trust.

My FREE Forgiveness Workshops are a powerful space to begin releasing the self-doubt – what a relief!

In my Masterful Living Program, we practice this anchoring together all year long. And in our FREE Forgiveness Workshop, we learn to let the shame fall away.

New ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: Anger Was My Favorite Emotion What if every time you blamed someone, you were actually locking in the very pain you wanted to escape? In this episode, I explore Chapter 7, Section 8 of A Course in Miracles – “The Unbelievable Belief” – and unpack a fundamental law of the mind: without projection, there can be no anger; without extension, there can be no love. I confess that anger used to be my favorite emotion – and I explain how I came to see that projection is always an expression of fear. I also share why taking total responsibility – with zero blame – is the counterintuitive way out of suffering. The conflict isn’t out there in the world. It’s in here, in how we see. And that’s actually good news – because we can change our mind. We’re doing this together.
