A Course in Miracles teaches us:
There are no idle thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level.
What is form? Form is our feelings. It’s our experience. It’s everything we’re experiencing in this world. When the true realization of that reached me, I made a decision.
I dedicated myself to purifying my mind of what Jesus calls the miscreative thoughts and the thoughts of mind wandering that are self-destructive.
That’s where the healing actually happens. At the level of the mind.
It’s potent. It’s powerful. It’s also the most challenging thing you’ll ever do, to become mindful of your thoughts. Let me tell you about someone who proved it.
Jennifer Ruth Russell was in my very first class of Masterful Living in 2009. She’s a musician who writes the most beautiful spiritual music, and she wrote so many beautiful songs during that year.
She did something else that year, too. For her husband’s birthday, she made a commitment to not judge him for an entire year. She didn’t tell him.
The gift wasn’t the announcement. The gift was the practice.
She said it was the most challenging thing she’d ever done. I believe her. It is tremendously challenging when we make the decision to give up attack thoughts.
Why is it so hard? Because we’ve been rehearsing the other way for a very long time. Our thoughts produce our emotions 100% of the time, and we’ve trained them well.
Most of us already know all this. We know that what we think about, we bring about. We’ve read the books. We’ve studied the teachings. Then we still don’t stop.
Then something worse happens. We feel guilty about not stopping. More ashamed. More bad. More wrong. Here’s what helped me see it correctly. The answer isn’t more trying.
Trying keeps us inside the struggle. Deciding moves us out of it.
Not I’ll try to be kinder to myself. Rather: I’ve decided. That’s an entirely different perspective.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE: No More Bad Days, with Maria Felipe I don’t have bad days anymore. I said it out loud to Maria Felipe and then had to sit with what I’d just claimed, because it’s true and it still sounds impossible. Challenging days, sure. I fractured my finger recently and it hurt plenty. But bad days are gone. Maria named the reason in one word, and it’s the same word that separates knowing A Course in Miracles from living it. Get ready to laugh with these two longtime friends.
