I used to analyze everything. As a spiritual counselor and teacher, I’d constantly wonder: “Why is that like that? What’s happening there?” I thought analysis meant wisdom.

Here’s what completely changed my approach: A Course in Miracles teaches that “the ego analyzes; the Holy Spirit accepts.”

Breaking It Down to Stay Broken

To analyze means to break down, to separate out. The ego loves this because it keeps separation going. While we’re busy analyzing why someone did what they did, what their behavior means, what went wrong—we’re not accepting. We’re not at peace.

ACIM states clearly: “The appreciation of wholeness comes only through acceptance. For to analyze means to break down or to separate out. The attempt to understand totality by breaking it down is clearly the characteristically contradictory approach of the ego to everything.”

The Fear Behind Analysis

Why do we analyze so obsessively? Fear. We think if we can figure everything out, we’ll be safe. If we can understand why, we can prevent future pain. But it’s an illusion.

Analysis doesn’t prevent anything—it just keeps us spinning in ego territory.

I’ve learned there’s no value in asking “Why is that like that?” What has value is acceptance—the clear knowing of truth that sets us free. Getting those downloads of insight without having to dissect everything first.

From Analysis to Acceptance

Let me give you specific examples:
Instead of analyzing why your partner said that hurtful thing, accept that they’re calling for love.

Instead of dissecting your childhood to understand your triggers, accept that healing is available now.

Instead of breaking down world events into good guys and bad guys, accept that everyone is either expressing love or calling for it.

In our Quantum Counseling Training Intensive, we practice this shift. Instead of analyzing our clients’ problems, we hold space for truth to emerge. Instead of breaking things down, we remember wholeness.

Your Freedom Practice

Next time you catch yourself in analysis paralysis, pause. Place your hand on your heart.

Say: “I choose acceptance over analysis. I choose wholeness over separation.”

Then listen. Not with your analytical mind but with your heart. You’ll be amazed at what becomes clear when you stop trying to figure it out and simply allow truth to reveal itself.

ACIM reminds us: “When I am healed I am not healed alone.” Your shift from analysis to acceptance doesn’t just free you—it contributes to the healing of the world.

That’s got to be our baseline practice: accepting instead of analyzing. Now that’s worth putting down the mental microscope for.

In my Quantum Counseling Training Intensive, the main thing we work on is eliminating worthiness issues so that people can live their calling, help more people, be more prosperous and share their gifts and talents in ways that are profoundly healing to themselves and others.

NEW ACIM PODCAST EPISODE:  In this episode, Why Punishment Never Works (And What Does) I shared one of the most transformative teachings from A Course in Miracles that changed my life: there is no sin, only mistakes that need correction, not punishment. Working with Chapter 19’s section on “The Unreality of Sin,” I explain how I used to be deeply attracted to punishment – thinking people (including myself) should be punished for their “sins” – until I discovered that punishment is actually guilt’s way of keeping sin real and protecting it. I share how the ego brings sin to fear demanding punishment, when actually every mistake is just a call for love, and how I learned to replace the word “sin” with “tactical error” to remind myself that correction and compassion heal while punishment only perpetuates suffering. This shift freed me from my own patterns of self-punishment including alcohol abuse, because when I stopped seeing others as sinners deserving punishment, my own unconscious guilt dissolved.
