“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Thy will not mine.”
Most people find even saying that is a cause of anxiety and fear. Totally understandable. Because when we’re ego identified, it does seem frightening that if we gave up our will to align with God’s will, it would be a whole different experience.
The Delusion About God’s Will
We delude ourselves into thinking that aligning with God’s will would not be perfect happiness. It would be perfect deprivation. We’d have to give up what we dearly love and treasure.
It’s not true, but that is the illusion.
A Course in Miracles tells us: “To fulfill the will of God perfectly is the only joy and peace that can be fully known, because it is the only function that can be fully experienced.”
There Is No Separate Will
Here’s what has been extremely helpful for me: recognizing that God’s will is our will, because we are of God.
We’re not separate from God. There is no separate will that could impose upon us. There’s only the illusion of a separate will.
We could have a separate will in dreams, but it’s still just a dream.
So I can say: I’m no longer interested in having the illusion of a separate will.
I’m only interested in aligning with God’s will.
And God’s will for me is perfect happiness. Why wouldn’t I be interested in that?
Beyond Temporary Satisfaction
I think I might know what perfect happiness is. But if I think perfect happiness is the alignment of conditions—so much money, this home, this partner—that’s not perfect happiness. That’s a temporary cessation of wanting. A temporary break in the thought pattern of not having.
That’s not good enough for me. I don’t wish to settle.
In my Masterful Living Program, we practice releasing our separate will daily. We learn that true freedom comes not from getting our way, but from aligning with the infinite goodness that’s already ours.
“Holy Spirit, please remove all attraction to illusions and delusions. Let me only be attracted to that which is true. AMEN”
Knowing that God doesn’t impose its will on me, that my will and God’s will are truly the same – God’s will for me is PERFECT happiness, so how could that be different than my will if I’m willing to be happy?

LATEST ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: In this episode, God Doesn’t Punish You (You Do),I reveal how the belief that God punishes us is completely false—it’s our own projection of guilt and shame that creates all punishment in our lives. I share my decades-long pattern of using alcohol, food, and other self-destructive behaviors to keep myself feeling guilty and reinforce the belief that I was fundamentally bad and sinful, a pattern I finally recognized came from centuries of religious teaching about being unworthy sinners. Through A Course in Miracles teachings from Chapter 3 and Lesson 189, I explain the “law of seeing”—that we perceive outside what we feel inside, so when we feel God’s love within us, we see a loving world, but when we feel self-hatred, we see only fear. As we complete this 9-year cycle, I’m inviting everyone to join me in releasing these ancient patterns of guilt and self-punishment before we begin fresh in 2026.
