This might sound shocking at first, but it’s incredibly liberating: that voice in your head that constantly tells you you’re not good enough? It’s not trying to help you improve. It’s actually attacking God.
Here’s what I mean. A Course in Miracles teaches us that we have two kinds of greatness available to us. There’s grandiosity, which is ego-made and is actually a form of attack. And there’s grandeur, which is God-given and can only bless.
Your true grandeur – your magnificence, your divine nature – is not something you created or earned. It’s not something you can lose or that needs improvement. It’s God-given, which means it’s perfect, eternal, and unchangeable.
So when that inner critic says, “You’re not good enough, you need to do more, you should be better,” it’s essentially saying that God made a mistake when creating you. It’s attacking the very essence of who you are – which is an expression of divine love.
For years, I lived under what I call “the tyranny of have-tos.”
I have to accomplish more.
I have to be more productive.
I have to prove my worth through endless doing.
I thought this was motivation, but it was actually a subtle form of violence against my own soul.
The ego thought system teaches us to believe that our worth comes from what we do, what we achieve, and what we accomplish in the world. But our true accomplishment – the only one that really matters – is learning to be joyful, harmonious, patient, and kind no matter what’s happening around us.
I used to be a committed fault-finder. I thought that spotting every flaw, every shortcoming, every way things could be better would somehow protect me from pain. But what I discovered is that all that fault-finding was my pain.
I wasn’t protecting myself from suffering – I was generating it.
The shift happened when I started asking the Holy Spirit: “Am I to say anything?” before offering criticism or advice. Most of the time, the answer was no. Just love. Just bless. Just be.
When we remember our God-given grandeur, criticism becomes impossible.
You can’t simultaneously hold your magnificence in awareness and attack yourself or others. It’s like trying to be in darkness and light at the same time – it can’t be done.
Your grandeur is your abundance. From this place, you can only bless because that’s what abundance does – it overflows with love. But you have to be willing to let go of the ego’s version of improvement, which is really just disguised attack.
Today, every time that inner critic starts up, remind yourself: “My grandeur is of God. I am already magnificent. I am already enough.” You’re not improving yourself – you’re remembering yourself.
The voice that tells you you’re not enough is lying.
The truth is, you’re so magnificent that you can hardly bear to look at it directly.
Let’s stop attacking our magnificence and start celebrating it.

NEW ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: In this episode, How to Become the Spiritual Leader of Your Family I dive deep into Chapter 7 of A Course in Miracles, exploring how the extension of God’s love is our only function—we literally cannot contain the fullness of God, so we naturally share it! I share my personal journey from believing I was “fundamentally bad” and unworthy of joy, to discovering that judgment creates a split mind that blocks our joy and our function. The most beautiful revelation? I healed my entire family dynamic without talking about spirituality—no more awful arguments, just Peace—simply by doing my inner work. As we finish this nine-year numerology cycle, I’m inviting you to recognize that your willingness is all that’s required; your personality doesn’t have what it takes (and never could), but Spirit does, and Spirit only needs your willingness to extend love to everyone, everywhere, answering every cry for love including your own.
