Have you ever hoped to be unfairly treated so you could claim innocence and be the victim?
C’mon, admit it, you probably have. I SURELY have. I’m 100% certain I’ve done it too many times to count.
I was so deeply entrenched in victim consciousness that I was actually inviting people to mistreat me. Why? So I could feel that righteous sense of:
“I’m the victim, therefore I’m innocent, which means I’m better than you, because you are NOT innocent. You are bad. You are wrong. I am innocent”
It’s all projection. It’s all ego.
The Crucifixion Game
A Course in Miracles says, “You cannot crucify yourself alone. And if you are unfairly treated, he must suffer the unfairness that you see.”
When we invite attack—and yes, we do invite it energetically—we’re not just hurting ourselves. We’re pulling others into negativity. There’s a karmic responsibility when we entice someone into attacking us.
I see this play out in relationships all the time. The abuser and the abused, playing their twisted dance. It’s so dysfunctional, so destructive. Sometimes I’ll see it on TV and I just can’t watch. I’ve experienced all I’d like to from it.
Breaking Free
For years, I was convinced something was blocking me spiritually. I’d conclude I was fundamentally bad, not good enough, not lovable enough to be happy or have awakening experiences.
But here’s what helped me see it correctly: I was standing in my own way with these victim patterns.
If we’re constantly proving others are guilty and we’re innocent, we’re keeping ourselves at such a low vibration. Like attracts like. We’ll attract everything we need to keep that story going, but we’ll crash and burn. It’s unavoidable, and it’s not worth it.
Your New Story
Look at any relationship where you feel mistreated. Can you see how you might be contributing? Not to blame yourself, but to free yourself?
