Let me share something that might surprise you: after four years of intensive spiritual training at Agape, I still didn’t feel qualified to be a really good counselor. Four years! Two years of pre-practitioner study, two years of Science of Mind practitioner training, and when I became licensed in 2000, I still felt like an imposter.

Sound familiar?  The “imposter syndrome” is a real and prevalent thing.  I describe it as feeling like a “spiritual fake.”  I REALLY felt that I was NOT qualified – and truth be told, it was because I wasn’t walking the talk.  I wasn’t living the Love.  I wasn’t.  Yet, I had a deep desire to do so and I wasn’t giving up.

Here’s what Michael Beckwith, my teacher at Agape, said: “God does not call the qualified. God qualifies the called.”

When I first heard that, I didn’t really get it. But now I understand what that means.

I had a deep resistance to sitting with people, listening to their problems. Part of me thought, “I’ll pay you NOT to have to do that!” But here’s what I discovered: when I kept my commitment to showing up—to truly sitting with people and knowing the truth WITH them, FOR them, ABOUT them—something shifted in me.

And it shifted in them.
It was absolutely miraculous and deeply healing.
I knew then that it truly was my calling.

Here’s the truth AND the miracle:
I couldn’t know the truth about my counseling client without knowing it about myself.

Every counseling session became a mutual healing. I’d sit there thinking,
“I’m ALL IN for all God, all the time,”
I realized I love this! I love talking about God all day long. I love supporting people in loving their lives too.

The secret isn’t in being perfect. It’s in being willing.

When we answer the spiritual call, we don’t have to have it all figured out. That’s an ego thought.

We just need to be willing to let Spirit guide us. To let go of our misperceptions—especially that crushing sense of unworthiness that keeps so many Light Workers playing small.

Think about it: How many people do you know who feel called to teach, counsel, or heal, but hold themselves back because they don’t feel “ready”? They’re waiting for some future moment when they’ll finally be qualified.

But as A Course in Miracles tells us: “Be not content with future happiness.” Your calling is NOW.

The truly helpful are simply those willing to let all their misperceptions go, so that all they know and show is the truth. That’s it. That’s the whole secret.

NEW ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: my topic is Everyone Is Teaching—What Are You Teaching?. In this episode, I share one of the most transformative teachings from the Manual for Teachers—that we’re always teaching through who we are, not just what we say. I open up about my own recent extinction burst around moving trauma and how these intense moments of old patterns surfacing are actually breakthroughs waiting to happen. I guide you through the revolutionary practice of “to have, give all to all,” showing how my years as a spiritual counselor taught me that when we hold space for someone’s perfection, both of us heal. This episode is my invitation to you to consciously choose what you’re teaching in every moment and to join me in recognizing that teaching only Love is not just beautiful—it’s our mission from God.
