Did you know that Halloween is thought to be a Celtic celebration of the eve of All Saints Day which is November 1st. All Souls Day is November 2nd. People would bake “soul cakes” and share them as a blessing and this evolved into our practice of trick or treating. People dressed in costumes to avoid being recognized by souls who had died but were still wandering the earth. By wearing a costume people wouldn’t be recognizable as human and would be unbothered by the wandering “ghosts.” Like many holidays and holy days, the traditions shift, change and especially in America they become commercialized to the nth degree.
I’ve always loved Halloween – particularly the opportunity to get creative and make a costume.
I’m sure this will be a Halloween to remember for folks on the east coast of the U.S. God bless them in their clean up after the storm.
Additionally right now, we’re under the influence of the full moon which began Monday and so right now is a great time to do a full moon release ritual. This morning I was hiking with my friend Michael Lennox who is a brilliant astrologer and has a great blog about this current full moon and the astrological influence. This morning at 6:30 am while we were hiking the moon was in full regalia to the west and the sun was rising in the east and it was so completely gorgeous.
Michael shared this today: “There is a phenomena in the lunar cycle known as the void Moon. This is the time when the Moon is between being actively connected with other planets and when it changes signs. It is the realm of the Divine Feminine and the most powerful time to turn within. What is interesting to note is that Monday featured a very short burst of energy in between TWO void Moons. This is a rare occurrence indeed, but what is most fascinating to me is that it was during the burst of lunar energy that hurricane Sandy hit land, bringing an enormous cleansing to the two places that need it most: Washington DC and Wall Street. You can’t make this stuff up!”
We ARE one – including Mother Earth and the Moon. Our practice of Love & Gratitude influences EVERYTHING. Our Willingness to HAVE a spiritual practice of Love & Gratitude is the key.
