Here’s something many people don’t realize: you can build a relationship with your guidance.

One of the best tools I know for understanding guidance is to start talking with it and having a relationship with it.

For a very long time, I didn’t do that. I didn’t have a relationship with my guardian angel, with the Higher Holy Spirit Self, or with any of the many helpful beings that are around us all of the time. I had a relationship with the ego, and it was a strong one.

I went to bed with the ego every night. I woke up with the ego every day. When I talked to my friends, I was really talking to the ego. All day long, I took its advice and followed its directions. The ego was my companion in all things.

My relationship with Jesus, my elder brother, was one I had rejected. I had walked away from my guides in the invisible, and I was sure they’d be angry with me for rejecting them. Yet on some level, I was aware they were talking with me all the time, trying to help me. Even when I’d made my bed in hell, they were still with me, offering the most loving opportunities.

I was afraid of them. I felt so mean and cruel to them that I believed anything they asked me to do would lead to my punishment. So when I rejected their guidance and followed the ego, I’d tell myself, “See? I’m being punished!”

I used to feel so stupid about it. “What kind of moron am I, that I keep having the same struggles?” That’s how I felt.

Here’s what I can see now: We’re afraid that following guidance will take us somewhere we don’t want to go. Nothing could be further from the truth. The guidance that terrifies us leads us to Peace, Joy, Harmony, Freedom, Wisdom, and Clarity. It moves us toward dissolving the ego identification.

If you’d like to practice this with others, I’d love for you to join us in my October Deep Dive Workshop: Trust & Follow Your Intuition, where we’ll explore trusting the guidance we’re already receiving.

That kind of relationship-building is exactly what we practice together, week by week, in my Masterful Living Program.  It’s so much easier to let the blocks to guidance go when we get to do it side by side.

October Deep Dive Workshop: Trust & Follow Your Intuition – Trust is the #1 characteristic of God’s Teachers according to A Course in Miracles, and after 26 years counseling spiritual students, I’d say it’s also the #1 issue we have. Trust is a skill we can learn, and learning it changes the quality of every day of the rest of our lives!  Saturday, October 24 Click here to learn more.

LATEST PODCAST EPISODE: What Is Evil? In this episode of A Course in Miracles: Walking the Talk, Living the Love, I explore a word we’ve all heard a million times. It can be tempting to label people evil for what they do. What does that even mean? A stranger attacked me online over a simple question about my dog. Instead of arguing, I got curious, and that led me right back to A Course in Miracles. So how does ACIM define evil? Along the way, I look at what the teaching says about evil, and why the word is so easy to reach for. The answer may surprise you.
