In a way, every thought is a vote for something.
As it says in A Course in Miracles, “There are no idle thoughts.”
I’ve talked to so many people over the years who were ambivalent or apathetic about their right to vote, and didn’t bother to vote. I get it. People feel discouraged and they feel that their vote doesn’t count or doesn’t matter. I don’t believe that. I’ve learned the hard way that every thought, every choice, every decision, matters.
Every single thought, every choice, every word, every decision, has an impact on our experience – without exception.
For some, the fullness of that responsibility is a burden. I used to feel that way. Now, I see that responsibility is my way out of suffering. If it’s happening with my life experience, then I can change it with my choices.
In the last presidential election, I counseled many people who were extremely anxious about the results of the election. In fact, I spoke with two ACIM students in the weeks before the election. One was terrified that Obama would win, and one was terrified that he would lose. Both thought that their candidate was the only one who could make the world a better place and the other one would tear it down.
That’s not how Spirit works. Things change on the political scene and in government because of gazillions of choices by billions of people. Each choice matters.
In each choice we make, every day, we are always either choosing Unity or separation. Always.
You can call it Love or fear – but I prefer to call it Unity or separation, as that feels more clear to me.
Is my choice one that values the Unity of all life or one that attacks it? That’s how I can easily determine if the choice is loving or not.
If you haven’t already voted, if you’re an American and you’re registered to vote – I encourage you to get out and vote for the candidate that best represents Unity to you.
I encourage you to see if you know anyone who needs a lift to the polls, would like some company or support. Do what you can to support Americans voting today.
Today as always, we place our trust and faith in God, in Love, in Spirit, in Unity, in Oneness. Together we rise in Joy, divided we suffer and fear.
Your vote matters because every choice we make matters.
