Thanksgiving is tomorrow and sometimes that can be a wonderful time of celebration, feeling more Love and gratitude than ever before. And sometimes it’s a time of trepidation, despair or worry. Sometimes it brings up guilt or shame. It can be a time when our past seems to have us by the throat – or the gut.
What I’ve learned is that I prefer being loving, kind and generous of heart, generous of Spirit. It’s easier and it’s more enjoyable.
I used to go into situations expecting to be disappointed or offended, hurt or angry and now I know that was all just a story in my head that was completely optional.
No matter how it looks, we can begin again in each moment.
We can start anew.
This doesn’t mean that what happened didn’t happen, or that the past doesn’t matter. What I’m describing is moving into the awareness that I don’t wish to revisit the past anymore. I don’t wish to revisit even the happiest days of the past. Why? Because Love is only in the present. I’m choosing to live in the present, where the Love is.
Looking at the past and the future through the lens of a story of my unhappiness is no way to live. Being bitter isn’t helpful to me. Resentment and regret are a very poor use of the present moment. Instead, I’m interested in being loving.
This doesn’t mean expecting people to be different or to have changed or subjecting myself to abuse of any kind. That’s not helpful to anyone and it’s not loving to myself.
I’m talking about being willing to have a healing in my heart so that I can show up differently and have a different experience. This is what Spirit can offer us, but only if we’re willing. If we’re willing we’re worthy and welcoming.
All are worthy of healing, but not all are willing and welcoming. Love opens the door to greater willingness and greater healing.
I AM willing to Love and be loved.
