Imagine a fire starts in your kitchen.

The flame jumps to the oil in the pan. Now it’s burning, and nothing you’re doing is putting it out.

You try this. You try that. You go looking for the fire extinguisher. You throw a towel on it, and the towel catches fire because it’s covered in oil.

Now you have a bigger problem.

At some point, don’t you want to call the fire department?

Before it gets out of control?  Which it almost is.

Think of the Holy Spirit as the fire department.

That feeling of shame, that feeling of guilt, that sickening sensation in your gut is the alarm going off. Danger, danger. Core meltdown occurring.

Don’t tolerate it. Don’t try to drown it out.  Offer it to the Holy Spirit for healing. Let it be lifted and shifted.  Allow.   I’m telling you, it works. It works. It’s so valuable.

If I could say one thing to the whole world, it would be this: shame is intolerable.  Don’t medicate it. Don’t run from it. Allow yourself to anchor into the pure Love of God, because that’s what we are.

Teach only Love, because that’s what we are. Turn to God anytime you feel any kind of sickening feeling about yourself, about life, about deep fear.

Help me now. Help me now. Help me now.

That’s going the other way. That’s turning it over.

This is even more hopeful than it sounds. All shame is predicated on faulty thinking. Stinking thinking. Which means all shame can be healed, though we do have to be willing to let the Holy Spirit heal it.

If something disturbs your peace and you’re no longer interested in that disturbance, it will be removed from your consciousness by the I AM presence.

Why does it dissolve?  Because the only thing holding it in place is our interest in it. Our identification with it.

Shame and guilt feel the worst simply because they’re the furthest from the truth. The more upsetting the feelings are, the more stinking the thinking is.  Which brings us to the triggers.

When someone sets us off, those beliefs had to already be in us in order to be triggered.

Which means the one who seems to be triggering us is actually doing us a favor.  When those things get triggered, that’s a healing opportunity. Let’s not miss our healing opportunity. Let’s not miss ANOTHER healing opportunity.  Let’s make the most of it. Let’s take advantage of it. Let’s activate it, experience it, express it, revel in it.  Every single time.

So much healing can occur.

I’ve had some truly awful mosquito bites lately. Once they healed, they were gone. I can’t even remember exactly where they were. They were there, they were really bothering me, and now there’s no trace of them at all.

That’s what can happen with the guilt and the shame.

We have to be one hundred percent willing. This is what I mean when I talk about proving God.

Let’s prove that God works.
Let’s prove that the Holy Spirit is always there for us.
Let’s prove that we’re worthy of miracles.
Let’s prove that we can let go of the past forever.
Let’s prove that we’re completely lovable, that there’s a perfection and an innocence and a magnificence about us that’s eternal.
Let’s prove that every misperception we’ve ever had can be permanently healed.

If you’re ready to stop missing these healing opportunities, this is the work. My FREE Forgiveness Workshop is where many people begin – next weekend I’ve got two of them.

Don’t tolerate the stress fire. Call the fire department. It works.

If you notice yourself doing it again and you’d like to break the cycle in community, my End My Self-Sabotage program starts tomorrow. Getting real with ourselves about what’s actually going on isn’t for the weak and the timid. It’s for the spiritual practitioner.

Come and be willing to do some work with us.

We’re done fanning the flames of our pain.

Sometimes when we become overwhelmed and upset by what we think we see we find ways to drown out the intensity of our reactions. We fall into various forms of self-medication and self-sabotage. I know a lot about that. And that’s why I created a program to rise up out of that pain.

TODAY:  End My Self-Sabotage 6-Week Program begins today, Sunday, July 26.  Self-sabotage is designed to slow down our spiritual growth. But what if I told you that we can dissolve that pattern?  When you recognize the pattern, you can interrupt it. And when you interrupt it with Love instead of willpower, everything changes.  I used to struggle with self-medication and other forms of self-sabotage, but that’s behind me now – if you can relate – let’s do it together!  Click here to learn more.

LATEST PODCAST EPISODE:  Where the Love is Now What if what’s keeping us from love isn’t what happened to us, but where we keep looking for it? I’m just back from our counseling intensive in Asheville, and I opened A Course in Miracles to Chapter 13 to a line I still find astonishing. It doesn’t tell us to release the past. It tells us we can’t see it at all. So what are we looking at, every time we’re upset? I’ll be honest with you about the years I taught forgiveness before I was willing to forgive, and about the wall I kept hitting without understanding why. And I’ll share what I do now with the hardest seasons of my life. It asks almost nothing of us, and I didn’t believe it could work either.
