It can feel like we’ve made a thousand mistakes. In our relationships, in our families, in our work. The list seems endless.
A Course in Miracles offers a wonderful kind of relief:
“It is possible to do this all at once because there is but one shift in perception that is necessary, for you made but one mistake.”
One mistake. It only seems like many.
The one mistake is that we valued separation. We started to see someone as separate from ourselves. We became allured by thoughts of separation, and we moved into fear. Every mistake since has simply compounded that one, each time we had a chance to extend patience and kindness and chose separation again.
The ego takes many forms, yet it’s always the same idea. As ACIM puts it, “What is not love is always fear, and nothing else.”
That’s so clear and so helpful. It’s why the healing can happen all at once. We don’t have to correct a thousand mistakes. We only have to change our mind about the one.
Right now.
Right now is the perfect time for us to make a U-turn and go the other way. Sacrifice is one of the forms fear takes. It dresses itself up as Love, and it convinces us that total Love would demand total sacrifice. No wonder we’ve been afraid of Love. No wonder we’ve kept our hearts guarded.
The truth is that Love requires no sacrifice at all. Our total freedom is to give all to all: to open our hearts, and to let go of ever trying to make anyone feel guilty, bad, ashamed, or punished again.
Giving all to all doesn’t mean giving away all our possessions, all our money, all our time, or all our energy. We give kind thoughts. We give compassion. We give kindness and generosity of spirit. We give Love, because Love is all there is.
This is what walking the talk and living the Love means. It’s a choice we can make in this instant, and in the next one, and in the one after that.
If you’d like to make that shift together, I’d love to have you join us for my How to Love Freely Deep Dive Workshop I’m doing on Saturday.
When we let Love lead we discover Love is our freedom. Love is our liberation. It always has been and it always will be.
How to Love Freely Deep Dive Workshop this Saturday, October 3 where we’ll practice loving without sacrifice together.
