It may seem hard to believe, but Self-Love is the antidote to feeling afraid, worried, upset, tortured, guilty, ashamed and so much more. And yet, so often when people have all those feelings they don’t look for the fastest way to heal it at the root cause. Instead, they often think the “problem” is solved with one of these two things:
1. Trying to fix or improve themselves and their behavior.
2. Trying to change or get something in the world to make them feel better.
I’ve learned the EXTRAORDINARY benefits of healing things at the root cause. When we get to the root of it then we have so much more free time to do things we enjoy – instead of coping, managing and avoiding.
A stepping stone on the path of Self-Love is Self-kindness. Everything we can do to be genuinely kind with ourselves builds that foundation of Self-Love. Self-kindness is a direct affirmation that we’re worthy of Love and Kindness. When people are unkind to me, as sometimes happens, I’ve learned that it simply means they don’t honor and Love themselves and so I don’t have to get offended or take it personally. In my experience, people who deeply Love themselves are kind and caring because they feel centered and harmonious most of the time.
For Day 2 of our Pray & Clear program here are some ways that I’ve learned to enjoy being kind to myself:
1. Kind & Loving Self Talk – I used to be rough with myself and demanding. Learning from the beautiful teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, I started to call myself “Darling” and “Sweetheart.” Try it! If you feel annoyed or upset, start calling yourself darling and sweetheart. Like this:
Darling, you can ask for help, you’re not alone.
Sweetheart, you’re doing the best you can.
2. Become More Aware – Start to really notice and write down – yes, make a list – of the things that you experience on a regular basis that don’t feel good or right to you. Take a few minutes in the evening to review the day and take stock. This is a POWERFUL life-changing habit to get into. You can eliminate things or shift things at a pace that feels comfortable for you. For now, just be willing to be aware of what is actually going on.
In my Finding Freedom Spiritual Bootcamp Class, people start to pay attention to their judgments and opinions. At first, many think they aren’t very judgmental, but when they start to pay attention, most realize they are extremely judgmental. Most people simply do not see what they do not wish to see. We self-medicate because we’d rather not feel what we don’t wish to feel. Awareness is curative. The more we become aware, the more healing choices we’re willing to make.
Be willing to be very aware of whenever something you eat or drink seems to make you feel tired, anxious, bloated, gassy, nauseous or anything that doesn’t feel harmonious. Make a list of these things. See what they have in common. Do you notice that you actually crave things that seem harmful to your well-being? Also, keep a separate page to make a list of the things that help you to feel great about yourself such as: taking time to get outside and get some fresh air, being in nature, prayer and meditation, drinking a big glass of spring water.
3. Ask the Angels for help! The angels will show you how to be more loving and kind with yourself – they’ll be so grateful for the opportunity. I have learned to go into the grocery store and call the Angels to come with me. I ask them to help me see only the foods that are really good for me and to not even notice the things that aren’t. It works! Be willing to play with it! you can do the same thing in a restaurant.
Share your experiments and results in our Pray & Clear facebook group – I’d love to learn your results!
In yesterday’s Spiritual Espresso, Day 1 of Pray & Clear, I gave the invitation to abstain from sugar for the 40 days, and I gave some tips on how to deal with cravings. I recognize that this is a big change for some. It’s so worth it – honestly, until you’ve done it, you can’t even imagine. ISome folks shared in the facebook group and in the comments on yesterday’s Spiritual Espresso shared what I have also learned to be true for me.
Bridgette said it perfectly, “Getting rid of sugar was one of the best things I did for my energy, clarity, moods and focus. After about three weeks, I begin to crave sugary foods less and less and now, no longer crave them at all. Plus, my liver thanks me by giving me a wonderful even digestion. Best suggestion ever, Jennifer!”
Here’s another tip for being kind to yourself – get a clear glass water bottle and put some pieces of tape on it, then take a sharpie – an indelible marker – and write words on the tape that are positive such as: Love, Beauty, Purity, Wholeness, Harmony, Freedom, Prosperity, Wisdom, Clarity and Joy! Even if you’re not paying attention to your water bottle, unconsciously, every time you sip from it, you’ll be sending a message of Self-Love and kindness.
What are some of the ways you enjoy being kind to yourself? Let us know! Please take a minute to join our facebook group and share your intention for the next 40 days. What are some tangible results you’d like to experience?
Remember my suggestion that you get and read this book: Clean by Alejandro Junger – click here to see at amazon.com. This book comes in paperback, audio book and kindle. If you have any health issues at all, including emotional and mental health, you might find this book as helpful and interesting as I did. You may or may not wish to follow the 21 day program in the book – but you’ll learn a lot.
