A Course in Miracles tells us: “All things are given you. God’s trust in you is limitless.”

Think about that for a moment.

God’s trust in YOU is limitless.

How much do we trust God? If we’re honest, probably not that much. We say we trust God, but then we try to control everything, manipulate outcomes, and figure it all out ourselves. We act like we’re on our own most of the time.

But God? God’s trust in us never wavers. Even though we’ve “poured toxic waste into the one mind” – even though we’ve made mistake after mistake and chosen separation over love countless times – God’s trust remains limitless.

This is the paradox I’ve been contemplating: God trusts us completely with the power to create, with access to divine love and wisdom, with the gifts of the Kingdom. These aren’t being held back pending our good behavior. They’re already given. They’re already ours.

The only requirement is that we align our will with God’s will. And here’s what I’ve discovered – there really is only one will anyway. God’s will is our will because we’re part of God.  The idea of a separate will is just part of the illusion we’re dreaming.

When I was wandering around feeling like the “prodigal son” – homeless, afraid, unaware that God’s gifts were with me everywhere I went – I thought I had to earn my way back into God’s good graces. But that’s not how it works.

God never stopped trusting me with infinite creative power.

I just forgot how to use it lovingly.

The invitation isn’t to become trustworthy enough for God’s gifts. The invitation is to remember that we’re already entrusted with them. We’re already the beloved child in whom God is well pleased. We’re already worthy of infinite love, infinite creativity, infinite joy.

Sometimes I think about how we defend our “chosen self” – the small, limited, fearful version of ourselves – against all evidence that we’re actually magnificent beings of light. We keep our eyes cast down “lest we catch a glimpse of truth and be released from self deception and set free.”

But what if today, just for today, you let yourself glimpse that truth? What if you remembered that you’re not the tragic figure wandering in misery, but the trusted child to whom all things have been given?

God’s trust in you has never wavered. Maybe it’s time to start trusting that.
