We can learn to hold the fortress of our mind.  My cat, Sattva, helps me to do that.  We’ve moved to the Boston area and had a long drive from Maine today and he got out of the house right after we got home.  He’s been outside now for about 2 hours.

He’s got a tracker so I can see where he is.  I’ve learned there’s not much point in chasing him unless he’s been gone a long time.  Bodhi, my dog, and I took a walk around the hood where he’s supposed to be, but no sign of him.  I thought the least we could do is leave our scent around the hood to help him find his way back.  Sattva loves to walk with us so I thought he might join.  Nope.

I’m concerned, but not worried.  I can see by his tracker he’s moving further away, I’d rather he come now.  Sigh.  I used to really be challenged when he’d do this when we lived in Vermont because of so many predators – bobcats, fisher cats, coyotes, but here the concern is more likely to be that he gets stuck somewhere, loses his tracker, or is running in traffic – fortunately he is good at avoiding cars.

These experiences have taught me to hold the fortress of my mind.

I’ve learned to not entertain the possibility of results I don’t want.  There are so many ways that we’re given to learn to hold the fortress of our mind and not be swayed by public opinion.   For instance, with the change of seasons and weather changes people sometimes think there’s a higher likelihood of getting a cold or flu.

Someone once told me they were out sick for a week with the flu and they blamed it on the warmer weather. In the course of our conversation he said at least 3 times that the exceptionally warm weather in his part of the country had caused him to be sick.

If this thinking were true, wouldn’t everyone who went on a warm winter vacation get sick?

I AM interested in truth. We can put an end to worry and  by no longer contributing to this kind of viral thinking.

Do you ever feel afraid of catching a flu?

Wouldn’t being afraid lower your vibration and contribute to feeling unwell.  Let’s not “catch” this kind of thinking!

What if you KNEW that whether you got the flu or you didn’t, it was for your highest and best?

When we’re practicing being loving, patient, kind, generous, and compassionate then we’re pretty much aligned with the highest and best all the time.  And while we might not like having the flu, it might just be for the highest and best.

Everything works together for our good.

There are no exceptions.
We can relax – even in “flu season” and “hay fever season.”

And I can hold the fort that Sattva is returning home soon!  All is well!

NEW ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: my topic is The Secret to True Prayer. There is a secret to true prayer, that’s so simple people don’t realize how healing and effective it is. True prayer isn’t about asking for things but about remembering that we already have everything we need in God and diving deeply into that knowing. In this week’s episode, drawing from The Song of Prayer, I unpacked the heart of true prayer as an offering, a letting go, a deep resting into Love itself. I shared my living experience of transformation, shedding the old, and embracing true prayer. True Prayer has healed my mind and transformed my life. It is a power tool!
