I Used to Be So Volatile

I used to be a powder keg.

I’d get irritated.

I’d get frustrated.

I’d get angry.

It was all the same thing – just different intensities of the same flame. Underneath the anger was always fear. Underneath the fear was always hurt.

I’d go off all over the place. I called it being passionate. I called it being honest. I called it standing up for myself.

It was just unhealed pain looking for somewhere to land.

A Course in Miracles tells us:

“The volatile have no direction. They cannot choose a direction because they cannot relinquish either one of them.”

That helped me see things correctly.

I couldn’t choose peace because I wouldn’t relinquish my attachment to being right. I couldn’t choose love because I wouldn’t relinquish my attachment to being a victim. I was oscillating between two voices – the ego saying defend yourself and the Higher Holy Spirit Self saying let it go.

We oscillate like that.

“I love them, but…”

“I’d like peace, but…”

“I’d like to forgive them, but…”

That little word but is where the ego lives. It’s where we keep one foot in attack while pretending the other is in Peace.

“Yet two teachers in total disagreement cannot teach us simultaneously. Their joint curriculum presents an impossible learning task.”

We have to choose.

Here’s what I’ve come to know: the rage I used to feel – the explosive kind, the kind that scared me – it’s not there anymore. The frustration and irritation still come up daily in little ways, and I don’t hide it. I’m being honest with you. Yet, now I can dissolve them and quickly. Not manage them. Not cope with them. Dissolve them.

The Higher Holy Spirit Self will heal our mind for us.

We do have to stop oscillating and focus on Love. We have to be willing to listen to one voice. The one that’s always for us, never against us.

I’d love to have you join me for my FREE Living A Course in Miracles event, April 30 – May 3, 2026. Four free days of choosing one voice, in community. It’s where the dissolving begins.

We’re choosing the other way.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE:  The Appointed Friend What if the very thing I love most is the thing that’s hurting me? I sat with Chapter 26, Section 6 of A Course in Miracles this week, and one sentence grabbed my interest. I share the story of my own bottoming-out moment – when something I’d poured years into didn’t go the way I hoped – and what I had to learn the hard way about attachment, illusion, and the friend I’d forgotten I already have. Why does almost everything we strive for eventually disappoint us? And what does it actually take to stop digging up the seed before it has time to grow? Listen with me on Episode 736.
