I just love the way Spirit works. I love the way Spirit moves through all of us. And here’s what made a difference for me in understanding forgiveness.
I work on the computer a lot. I’m working on it writing daily inspiration, creating classes, sending emails, recording prayers, zoom workshops and classes, podcasting, bookkeeping and more – doing all kinds of things. I’ve noticed that almost every program I use has auto-correct in text. So when I start writing words and I make misspellings or typos, it will autocorrect.
Now, here’s what made me laugh – and what lit me up spiritually.
The Old Laborious Way
I learned to type in high school on a non-electric typewriter. Then I moved to an electric typewriter. Then the Selectric correcting ones came along where you could just hit the button and it would back up and automatically correct a few letters.
Before that? If you made an error, you could throw away the piece of paper. You could try to erase it – but the paper would slip and slide and leave smudge marks. Then there was liquid paper. Then white tape. So many laborious ways of trying to correct things in the world of form.
The Spiritual Auto-Corrector
What I realized is that all those ways of working in the world of form to correct things are the things we often tend to do in the world of form – to make things better or correct things.
But we don’t have to do any of that.
We can let the Holy Spirit be our auto-corrector.
That’s what Jesus is telling us in A Course in Miracles. The Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of our wrong decisions if we let Him. All the decisions we made to judge, to complain, to attack – as soon as we recognize them, we can say:
“Oh, I was just attacking my friend, attacking my neighbor. Oh, I was falling into complaining. I was blaming. Auto-correction. Holy Spirit, please autocorrect all the consequences. I’m not interested in attacking, blaming, shaming. I’m not interested in feeling guilty. I’m truly done with all of these consequences. Will you please autocorrect in all directions of time and space?”
That’s the gift of the Holy Spirit – but the Holy Spirit CANNOT do it if we don’t ALLOW it.
We Really Can Allow It
That’s the thing. We don’t allow it. But we can. We really, really can.
We can change our mind and we can allow for the correction. There’s so many examples of Jesus trying to get us to understand that God is not holding anything against us. God is Love. Why would God hold anything against us? Unless we’re thinking this world is real.
Remember – nothing real can be threatened and nothing unreal exists.
So we’re making the illusion real when we’re thinking that God’s holding things against us.
Here’s the Practice
A Course in Miracles, at the very end of Chapter 5, gives us the actual words to say:
“I must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace. I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise. I want to decide otherwise, because I want to be at peace. I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of my wrong decision if I will let Him. I choose to let Him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.”
We go back in our mind to the point where we’re not feeling peaceful and just identify it. “Ah! This is the place where something is happening. Whatever the root causes are, (I don’t need to know or understand) I’m giving it to you, Holy Spirit.”
We don’t even have to identify it clearly.
We can give it to the Holy Spirit and let the correction happen.

It’s so much easier now to communicate clearly and correctly, meaning with Love, with compassion, with tenderness. This is correction made easy. We can do this!
