A Course in Miracles makes a statement in Lesson 132 that can be confusing at best and a deal breaker for some. It says:
“There is no world.”
ACIM tells us this is the central thought ACIM is attempting to teach. Not one of the central thoughts. The central thought.
The world we’ve been working with, struggling with, defending against, trying to fix, trying to control, is a projection.
It’s an illusion. It’s a screen displaying our consciousness back to us.
This is hard for most of us to receive.
We’ve spent our lives convinced that the world is the cause and we are the effect. The world made us anxious. The world made us tired. The world disappointed us. The world withheld from us.
ACIM is offering us the opposite teaching.
We are the cause. The world is the effect.
ACIM is gentle about this. It says,
“Not everyone is ready to accept it,
and each one must go as far as he can
let himself be led along the road to truth.
He will return and go still farther,
or perhaps step back a while and then return again.”
We don’t have to be ready. We don’t have to be fully convinced. We don’t have to make this teaching work in our mind today.
We just have to be willing.
If we can’t be willing yet, we can be willing to be willing. If we can’t get there, we can be willing to be willing to be willing.
Start anywhere. Even the smallest willingness opens the door.
We don’t have to figure any of this out.
We don’t have to know how to dissolve our beliefs.
We don’t have to manage the projection ourselves.
The knower already knows.
The Higher Holy Spirit Self is pre-installed within us.
Our job is just to put the Higher Holy Spirit Self in charge and relax. To allow the unfolding. To let the truth be remembered rather than trying to manufacture it.
ACIM closes Lesson 132 with one of my favorite lines:
“Change but your mind on what you want to see,
and all the world must change accordingly.”
I love that it rhymes.
I’ve seen this happen over and over again, year after year, with the people doing this work with me. They change their mind on what they want to see, and their world changes accordingly.
They start to see their spouse differently. Their children. Their boss. Their coworkers. Their body. Their friends. Their family. Their finances. Everything. Including any and all losses.
The world cannot resist a change of mind.
It has to change with us.
It cannot fight what we’re choosing.
This is the work we walk into together in my Masterful Living Program, in the upcoming Change Your Mind About the World series, and in every free workshop I offer.
We’re not trying to fix the world. We’re not trying to control the projection. We’re learning to source our thoughts from Love, and to let the world reorganize around the new consciousness.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE: Self-Love Isn’t Selfish with Alan Cohen Spiritual students who who pour themselves out for everyone else, then feel a flicker of guilt the moment they pause to care for themselves. They say yes when they’re already running low. When they finally rest, a quiet voice calls it selfish. For anyone walking a spiritual path, the line between devotion and depletion blurs fast, and most of us were taught to honor the wrong side of it. Joined by author Alan Cohen, Jennifer Hadley turns to A Course in Miracles to question a belief so familiar that ACIM students rarely notice they’re living by it. What if your self-care was never the indulgence you feared?
