Any time we feel intensity, a storm, it can take so many forms. It could be pain in the body. It could be a sense of dread. Maybe today it’s fear of the future of the world, of your relationship or your job. Whatever it is, it can feel like it’s taking over your life, your attention – everything.
But that can change. All the while that storm seems to be happening, it can begin to seem like a swirling cloud that appears to be outside of you. And yet there’s a calmness in the center of your being that you can always return to – and you do.
Yes, we can live this way – calm in the midst of the storm. Even just thinking about it is calming.
A Course in Miracles describes it so beautifully:
“And you will be more aware of this quiet center of the storm than all its raging activity. This quiet center, in which you do nothing, will remain with you, giving you rest in the midst of every busy doing on which you are sent.” (T-18.VII.8:2-3)
The storm doesn’t have to stop for us to find the calm center, the Peace. The center is already there, in the midst of every busy day of doing.
Here’s how simple it can be. We just say, Gosh, I can close my eyes for a minute, get as calm as I can, and find my center.
Find the center. Actively seek it, because it’s there. We can do this anywhere, even in the middle of the most difficult day.
Then from that place, join with the Higher Holy Spirit Self – and recognize that YOU ARE that – you ARE the Higher Holy Spirit Self – that’s your true identity, not the body, not the personality, not your problems.
You are not your problems.
Tune in and listen. Pause, and feel the stillness. Feel that Infinite Love Intelligence is what you are and you are held, known, loved at the very center of the mind of God.
Let yourself be inspired and directed from that place of willingness to remember the truth.
If we’re truly willing to go there, we’ll receive many, many benefits over time. It’s a process. And we can also receive instantaneous Peace. It can come in an instant. Sometimes it takes a little longer, and that’s okay. It’s just the way it is.
This is mind training, moment by moment. You can do this. We’re not waiting for a quiet day to feel peaceful. We’re returning to the quiet that’s already inside us, again and again, in real time – ESPECIALLY when it feels stressful.
The swirling cloud will keep appearing for a while. That’s all right. Each time we return to the center, it gets a little easier to find the Peace, and a little harder to forget.
