It’s always a good time to go within and to do an inner inventory and llook inside your heart and mind, and ask a simple question.
What am I holding on to, and why?
Are you holding on to resentments and regrets, hurt, blame and shame that really don’t serve you?
I recognize this so clearly in other people because it was my experience.
I got hurt in relationship. I got hurt in my primary relationships, in my family. I got hurt in friendships. I got hurt in romance and partnership. I got hurt in all of those things. I felt so wounded and so fearful.
My response, and I can still remember this so clearly from my 20s, was to get hurt in a romantic relationship and think:
“He’s a terrible person for hurting me, and I’m never going to love again.”
Now think about all those sad love songs. The ones about not being able to breathe without someone. The obsessive love songs, “every breath you take, I’ll be watching you.” I used to LOVE all of those songs.
Those songs of intense specialness are some of the most popular songs ever written.
Why?
Because it’s such an ego hook. Here’s something I’d like to invite you to do as a loving gift to yourself.
Look at the songs you listen to. The songs you’re drawn to. The songs you love to sing along with in the car, or listen to over and over again.
-
Are they sad songs?
-
Are they songs of unforgiveness?
-
Are they songs of hurt and blame, resentment and regret?
Every time you listen to that, and feel that resonance with it, is that actually helping you? Notice. Pay attention. Does it help you to feel good about yourself when you sing along with that song?
There’s a reason this runs so deep for so many of us. As children it can be very confusing, because our families teach us what Love is mostly according to the ego.
If you were taught that being loving means being controlling, and being manipulative, and shaming, then you’re going to grow up thinking that’s what Love is. (Remember the song “I want to know what love is ..”)
And then, in order to heal your mind, you’re going to attract similar acting people into your life through to give you an opportunity to more deeply experience those patterns and heal the mind that made them.
The script is going to bring people in to help you heal your, by triggering the painful past and giving you a chance to choose again. It’s not an error. It’s an opportunity. It’s a gift.
“Look, then, beyond error and do not let your perception rest upon it, for you will believe what your perception holds.”
This kind of moment-by-moment mind training is exactly what we live together, week by week, in my Finding Freedom From Fear spiritual bootcamp starting Sept 21.
Nothing we’ve been taught about Love is stronger than what Love actually is. We’re explorers, adventurers, discovering where the mind can go – how high, how low. It’s not a sin, it’s not a crime, it’s what we planned.
My Finding Freedom From Fear Spiritual Bootcamp is 90 days of moving out of coping and into real trust, faith and listening to the higher wisdom, together. This is my longest running program – popular because it is such a game changer. Are you up for truly moving past fear? I only offer this once per year – We start in September!
