Sometimes it seems like we’ve become so enamored of speaking about our wounding – over and over and over again.  Sometimes we’re trying to process the pain in order to come to that place of Peace, forgiveness and nonjudgment.

But very often we’re just looking to confirm and affirm our beliefs.

We’re not doing any processing or healing at all.  We’re somehow trying to get other people’s respect, or other people’s understanding or compassion by thinking of the right thing to say or do.  Unfortunately, the main thing we’re doing is keeping the specialness of our wound alive.  So we’ve become identified with the wounding and the suffering.

That’s another form of ego identification. And all of it prevents us from waking up to our true identity.

Here’s what’s actually happening every time we tell our sad story again:  It’s adding power to it. Every time we energize it. Every time we talk about it.

What they did to me. What they shouldn’t have done to me. What they should have done. What they didn’t do.

We keep energizing it, and energizing it, and energizing it.

A Course in Miracles names this precisely: “The ego’s plan is to have you see error clearly first, and then overlook it.”

And then ACIM asks us the question that closes the whole case:

“Yet, how can you overlook what you have made real?”

We can’t. That’s the answer. We can’t overlook what we’ve made real because we’ve made it too precious.

So it really comes down to becoming clear about one thing:

  • How are we investing our thought?
  • How are we investing our energy?
  • How are we investing our beliefs, our time, our focus?

We keep your attention on being Love, and focus on extending Love, genuinely, from our heart, not our intellect.

For many spiritual students, the intellect, the ego, is running their spiritual practice and their spiritual studies.

If we don’t bring it into our heart, if we’re not truly extending Love, and it’s just intellectual, we’re not going to experience the healing.

Then we’re going to start to feel confused and worried that there’s something wrong with us. That we don’t have what it takes. That we can’t do this. That we’re clueless, that we’re missing the key.

It’s simply that we haven’t pulled the willingness into our heart.

That’s all it’s ever been.  Not a character flaw. Not a missing piece.  We forgive ourselves for the past and we  keep our attention on the healing, and keep it there, and keep it there, and keep it there again.  If you’d like to practice this in community, my FREE Forgiveness Workshop is free and open to everyone.

Let’s celebrate our healing opportunities instead of rejecting them.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE:  What To Do When Someone Blames You. A family member got upset with me and told me it was my fault.  I didn’t attack back. I didn’t defend myself. I didn’t need him to admit he was wrong, and I didn’t make him wrong either. What I felt toward him instead is the part I’m still grateful for. Chapter 29 of A Course in Miracles. The gap between you and your brother.
