For a long time I didn’t cry.  I won’t say that I couldn’t cry, but just that I didn’t cry.  Well, alright, that’s not entirely accurate.  The only things that made me well up with tears were movies and stories about people being able to find their own redemption.  And parades.  Specifically, marching bands, and the Rockettes.

Movies get me to cry.  For instance, Norma Rae, when she stands on the table with the union sign, I cry like a baby every time.  Her standing up to the oppressor is such an act of courage, and in a sense, redemption that it touches me deeply.

I also cry when I see a marching band.  I just love a parade.  They get me every time.  It’s the moving in unison.  It’s the joining together for the purpose of making something beautiful.  The oneness touches my heart.

When I sang in the Agape International Choir I used to cry while we sang all the time.  I wasn’t the only one, I could look down the row and see others singing their heart out with tears running down their cheeks.  We were singing our prayers of gratitude and rising up to Spirit.  It was a beautiful and healing experience.

Many times I knew that I was crying to release the stored sadness from a time when I thought I’d never get to the place of healing where I was in that moment.  I am so grateful, SO VERY grateful for the healing I’ve experienced and that is why I must keep sharing that so much healing is possible for each of us.

In my classes, in counseling sessions, folks will cry with gratitude that they’ve learned how to change their mind and go the other way.

I understand those tears so well.  They are tears of relief as well as gratitude.

If we’re willing and we choose it, healing is ours.  When we do choose it, and we actually heal the deep sadness we’ve carried for so long – it’s profoundly nourishing to our soul.

The release of that old sadness we carried brings tears of gratitude.

These are great tears to be able to cry.  I so often feel profoundly grateful for the life I lead now and I’d like everyone to be able to feel that too.  It’s a wonderful feeling.
