How could you place your trust in Love if you don’t have any willingness?
This might seem obvious, but I see people all the time trying to develop trust and faith while simultaneously holding onto their reluctance.
It’s like trying to drive with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake – an exercise in going nowhere.
A Course in Miracles tells us that “the holy instant is the result of your determination to be holy.”
That determination, that willingness, is what makes everything possible.
Think about any relationship in your life. If you only have a little bit of willingness to love, respect, honor, and cherish someone, how strong is that relationship going to be? But when you have full willingness – when your heart is completely open – that’s when real intimacy and connection happen.
It’s the same with our relationship to Spirit.
We can’t develop deep faith while holding back.
We can’t access divine guidance while simultaneously trying to figure everything out ourselves.
The ego loves to offer us special relationships where there’s just a little bit of willingness. Just enough to keep us engaged, but not enough to actually transform anything. That’s how we stay stuck in the same patterns for years.
But when we’re truly willing – when we’re ready to place our trust fully in Love – everything changes. The Course says “the holy instant does not come from your little willingness alone. It is always the result of your small willingness combined with the unlimited power of God’s Will.”
Your willingness doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real.
I spent years thinking I was willing to trust God, but I was actually trying to use God to get what I wanted.
I wanted to trust God to fix my problems the way I thought they should be fixed.
That’s not trust – that’s trying to be God’s consultant.
Real willingness means being willing to let Spirit show you what true healing looks like, even if it’s completely different from what your ego thinks it wants.
The beautiful thing is that once you experience what happens when you’re truly willing to trust Love, you won’t want to go back to trying to manage everything yourself. The peace, the flow, the miracles that show up when we get out of our own way – it’s so much better than anything we could orchestrate with our limited thinking.
So ask yourself: Where am I holding back my willingness?
What would happen if I was completely willing to trust Love in this situation?
